Home Wedding Receptions: Hiring a Caterer

When my husband and I tied the knot last year, we didn't want anything lavish. Both of us did the big wedding and reception thing with our first spouses. This time around, we wanted a home wedding, complete with an intimate reception in the backyard. For the reception, we chose to hire a local caterer. From the first meeting, we knew the caterer would make sure everything was perfect. She came up with a menu that allowed for the dietary needs of our varied group of friends. She designed and ordered the cake, and even took care of setting up the tables and chairs. All we had to do was show up. If you and your beloved are planning something simple at home, it pays to work with the right caterer. Let me share how we worked with ours, and why we would do it again without hesitation.

Catering Options For Short Breaks Between Meetings

Blog

While a local catering service can provide the food for a multi-course, sit-down meal that you might occasionally want at the end of a corporate event, there are other food options that can be useful at other times. If you're planning a day-long event that will include several meetings throughout the day, it can be fun to think about having a caterer provide snacks that are easy for your participants to grab. Depending on the day's schedule, participants may sometimes have just 10 or 15 minutes between meetings, but this is more than enough time to grab something tasty and nourishing. Talk to a catering professional about these options.

Small Salads

Small salads can be a healthy option that people will enjoy grabbing and eating on their short breaks between meetings. Your catering service likely has a wide range of single-serving bowls or containers that can work well in this application. There are virtually endless salad options to consider, but it can be fun to choose non-conventional options. For example, instead of standard salads such as garden and Caesar salads, your caterer may suggest Greek salad. Or, depending on the time of year, it might be enjoyable to consider a salad that has fresh strawberries or grapefruit segments to add a sweet flavor.

Mini Wraps

While wraps can work well for lunches, they can also be viable for snack time — especially when they're small enough that they're easy to eat in just a few bites. In addition to being quick to eat, mini wraps are also easy to consume. They don't require cutlery, which means that people may eat them as they walk to their next meeting. Ask your caterer to prepare a few options that have meat — ham, cheese, and lettuce, for example, as well as roast beef and lettuce. You may also want a few vegetarian options — perhaps something that includes hummus and a combination of fresh veggies.

Chips And Dip

Another snack option to consider is chips and dip, which your caterer can provide in a few different ways. While there's nothing wrong with conventional corn chips and salsa, there are many other combinations. For example, your caterer might suggest corn chips with a bean-based dip, which offers fiber and protein. There are plenty of spice combinations that the caterer can include in this type of dip, which can make its flavor more exciting than conventional salsa.
