Home Wedding Receptions: Hiring a Caterer

When my husband and I tied the knot last year, we didn't want anything lavish. Both of us did the big wedding and reception thing with our first spouses. This time around, we wanted a home wedding, complete with an intimate reception in the backyard. For the reception, we chose to hire a local caterer. From the first meeting, we knew the caterer would make sure everything was perfect. She came up with a menu that allowed for the dietary needs of our varied group of friends. She designed and ordered the cake, and even took care of setting up the tables and chairs. All we had to do was show up. If you and your beloved are planning something simple at home, it pays to work with the right caterer. Let me share how we worked with ours, and why we would do it again without hesitation.

Are You Planning A Special Birthday Party For Your Soon-To-Be-Sixteen Years Old Daughter?

Blog

The expression Sweet Sixteen has probably never been more meaningful to you than it is now that your daughter is turning that magical age. Have you already bought her birthday present? Do you have a special event already planned? If not, from arranging to private catering to hiring a DJ for your daughter's birthday event, here are some ideas that might help.

Arrange For Private Event Catering - Will you be having your daughter's sixteenth birthday party at your home? Maybe you've already rented an event room for the occasion. Either way, think of the menu for your event. Will the party be a very formal one where all the kids get to dress up? Or, will it be a casual event? Of course, that will determine what kind of meal the caterers will serve. For example, if you are hosting a formal seated dinner, the caterers might suggest that the guests be given a choice of the main course.

Small steaks and grilled chicken are two good choices, with mashed potatoes, peas and a green salad as the sides. For a casual event, the caterers might suggest a buffet. For example, a Mexican theme with build-your-own tacos as the main course would be one good choice. Or Hawaiian Haystacks that include chicken with gravy, rice, pineapple chunks, coconut, slivered almonds and other condiments as the toppings is another fun choice that might be new to the kids.

Having your daughter's sixteenth birthday event catered by a private catering service will more than likely be a lot more affordable than you thought it would be. And, the fact that you won't have to cook, serve or clean up will make it some of the best money you'll ever spend.

Arrange For Dancing - Hire a disc jockey. Think of selecting a professional DJ who has worked at other teen events. He or she will know the best songs to play. In addition, a professional DJ who is familiar with teen parties knows that sometimes the kids need to be motivated to get on the dance floor. The DJ will have fun ways to make that happen and to keep the dancing going. For example, there might be girl-asks-the-guy numbers.

Will there be adults at the party? For example, your daughter's aunts and uncles and her grandparents might attend the event. if that's the case, the DJ will probably include dance music that will be fun for both the older folks and the kids. Don't be surprised if some of those older folks can twist and rock 'n roll even better than the younger set.
