Home Wedding Receptions: Hiring a Caterer

When my husband and I tied the knot last year, we didn't want anything lavish. Both of us did the big wedding and reception thing with our first spouses. This time around, we wanted a home wedding, complete with an intimate reception in the backyard. For the reception, we chose to hire a local caterer. From the first meeting, we knew the caterer would make sure everything was perfect. She came up with a menu that allowed for the dietary needs of our varied group of friends. She designed and ordered the cake, and even took care of setting up the tables and chairs. All we had to do was show up. If you and your beloved are planning something simple at home, it pays to work with the right caterer. Let me share how we worked with ours, and why we would do it again without hesitation.

Plan An Informal Country-Themed Wedding Reception

Blog

If you will be getting married to your significant other in the near future and would like to plan an informal country-themed wedding reception that will be held on a portion of your farmland, consider adding the following ideas to your plans. A laid-back event that is held outdoors will provide you, your spouse, and guests with the opportunity to make memories together while relaxing in a comfortable and picturesque setting.

Offer A Picnic Style Meal

Hire a catering service to prepare and serve food at the gathering. A picnic-styled meal that consists of fried chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, and tossed salad will be filling and reminiscent of a summer meal that is commonly eaten outdoors on a warm day. Request that the catering crew set the food items on trays that are arranged across a long table, allowing guests to help themselves to as much of each dish as they would like.

Cover small dining tables with checkered tablecloths and offer blankets to cover the ground for guests to sit on.  To make cleanup a breeze, offer disposable dinnerware and utensils to each guest. You can purchase colorful dinnerware and utensils that are sturdy and attractive, yet cost effective. Place a couple trash bins on the property so that guests can toss their leftovers, plates, and utensils into one of them once they have satiated their hunger.

Set Up A Wine And Cheese Station

Purchase several bottles of wine, cheese blocks, and tall plastic champagne flutes. Arrange the items on a table that is next to the table that is holding the prepared food items. Allow guests to participate in a wine-tasting event. Before each person takes a sip of the first type of wine that was selected, toast everyone who has attended your reception and thank them for being a part of your special day. Place a few butter knives next to the blocks of cheese, providing guests with the opportunity to remove slices from each block.

Play Country Music For Everyone To Dance To

Hire a disc jockey to play a variety of country-themed songs. Install a portable dance floor on a level portion of the property. A portable floor can be rented from a business that carries a line of party supplies. If you choose not to rent a floor, rope off a portion of your property to designate as a dancing area. Line up some patio furniture, including lounge chairs and portable hammocks next to the dance area so that guests can lay back and rest while listening to the music and watching some of the attendees dance to the musical selections.
